Disclosure Policy

Most books and products I review, bash, slam, or advocate I have bought with my very own money. I'll note otherwise (likely with a squeee!) if I got it for free. I'm associated with the Episcopal Church, Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, Electric Spec Magazine, and whatever company (at the time) my husband works for.

Most of my writing is for my own purpose. but I'll try real hard to note when it's otherwise.

Check it, yo.

I'm a writer, editor, wifey, and a mom (no, I don't put mom first, so there). My husband's sexy and my kids are beautiful. My dog is definitely cuter than yours. (Prove me wrong by putting a pic of yours in comments.)

I write mostly speculative fiction, the darker the better, with a smattering of mystery, thriller, and erotica thrown in for grins. I read a little Tarot now and again to people who don't take it seriously. I like my movies violent, my men funny, and my beer cold. You can find me here and there on the Internet, including Twitter.

Keep an eye on the sidebar and marquee for actual live Sightings.

Feel free to use my contact information - responsibly, please! I love emails, but please identify yourself well so I don't delete you out of hand as spam.

Some of my fiction is available for free online, some, not so free. Writing being my job, I really like to get paid. I even charged my own husband for technical writing last year. That said, I love to support up-and-coming writers, magazines, books, etc. I'll consider unpaid gigs like articles or reviews on a case-by-case basis. I don't often do critiques out of hand. I have several partners and betas with whom I already trade work. But I do hang around Critters.org Go there for good help - it's a start anyway.

100, er, well, 99 things

I think this sort of thing is just self-absorbed prattle, but Lunatic thinks everyone should have one, so I'm goin' for it.

100? That sounds like a lot.

The basics:
1. I'm a chick
2. Brown hair, gold streaks (yeah, fake)
3. Brown eyes with a touch of green when you're close to me
4. Two kids, boy and a girl. Yeah, I know, perfect. They are attractive enough to be child models, though I'd never do that to them. They get stared at all the time, like me.
5. I like to think that at the end of my life I'll have only had the one husband - 14 years this May and we've known each other for the better part of 20.
6. No pets currently; angling for a dog.
7. Two homes; one near Boulder, Colorado, one in Grand Lake, Colorado. We spend most of our time in Boulder, however my heart resides in Grand Lake.
8. Born August 16, 1967. I'm told I look 30 on the outside. I used to care how old I looked, now I don't. Much.
9. Five feet tall, just under 130 lbs - under 20% body fat, size 4-6

(I realize I'm reaching here, but I'm already struggling with coming up with stuff.)

I'm physically active:
10. I board, not ski.
11. I work out minimum five days a week and people tell me I have incredible legs, especially calves.
12. My legs are too big for my taste but reliably strong.
13. I don't train for any sports, I play no sports, I pretty much don't like any team sports at all.
14. I hate running.
15. I love lifting weights.
16. I love to ride horses, grew up doing dressage and combined training (stadium and field jumping.) Someday I hope to get back into it.

Personality:
17. I'm told I'm laid back. I think that's only halfway true through.
18. Curse words are part of my regular vocabulary.
19. I have "issues" with authority.
20. My opinions are my own and I try not to inflict them on others.
21. I'm very forgiving.
22. When left to my own devices I'm a loner to the point of being unhealthy.
23. I enjoy men's company over women's.
24. I believe that I'm capable of great violence, but the opportunity has never presented itself.
25. I rarely feel guilty and I have no idea if that's a good or bad thing.
26. I'm an accomplished liar, but I don't have to lie often anymore.
27. I'm a consummate teaser, and if you can't take it I have no use for you.
28. I generally "test" people I meet by teasing them early on.
29. I take teasing well, but if I sense meanness I get nasty and defensive immediately.
30. I am not a patient person.
31. I have no financial sense at all, though I pay our bills and handle the family finances (poorly). Fortunately my husband makes a decent living.
32. I have a rabid attention span when it comes to something I like; nearly no attention span for that which I don't.
33. I am a kinesthetic learner (doing). I also pick things up by sight, but I'm a terrible retainer of verbal information.
34. I have no qualms about speaking in front of a group.
35. I am terrible at small talk, especially if the other person is quiet.
36. I hate talking on the phone (I prefer email).
37. I'm generally happy and relaxed, unless my kids set me off.
38. I only need 6 hours of sleep per night, and usually one night a week I sleep "late", which means eight hours.
39. I garner a lot of attention from men and women and I don't really understand why. Most of the time I like it, sometimes it's annoying.
40. I think I tend to be narcisistic, though by definition one is not very narcisistic if one realizes that one is.
41. I don't take advice very well.
42. The only thing I'm truly anal about is grammar and spelling.
43. I'm terrible at remembering names.
44. I'm not shy, but often very reserved. Yes, you should take it personally. Other times I'm not reserved at all. I'm told that I'm very outgoing and friendly, so I must have a good poker face.
45. I think I'm an average parent at best, but I try.

Education and work, past and present:
46. I have a BS in Education, nearly a BA in English, nearly a Masters in Education.
47. My grades were average at best except in Grad school - 3.8.
48. I'm sure there were some, but I can't recall getting less than an A on any paper.
49. I rarely got As on tests.
50. I worked in customer service for a major medical company.
51. I worked in restaurants (never again!).
52. I worked as an interior designer.
53. I worked in education/counseling (with underpriveledged kids).
54. I've been a paid freelance artist.
55. Now I write. I anticipate that writing is my permanent career, moving into full time as my kids grow up. My goal is to see my first book in print within two years and write a book a year or more thereafter. Good luck to me.
56. I write approximately 4-6 hours a day, either on the blog or fiction or some articles.
57. I've written four novels, a complete series, in two years. The first is under review by a major publisher. The process is slow but the feedback has been very positive. The second is ready for review. The third is in revisions, and the fourth is quite rough and will likely require rewriting as I just recently realized how the series actually ends (I was wrong before). This reworking doesn't bother me though.
58. I have enough story and book ideas stacked up to carry me for years.
59. I am currently looking for representation.

Physical, health:
60. My resting heart rate and blood pressure is so low that nurses commonly check it two or three times.
61. I had two caesarian sections with my kids and my bp was so low both times that the nurses were very "nervous". I passed out once when it dropped.
62. I had a DVT between my the births of my children. DVT- Deep vein thrombosis; a life threatening blood clot. It remained intact, but had part of it broken off it might have killed me or caused irreperable damage to my lungs. It hurt like a bitch and I was in ICU for three days. The worst part was leaving my 1 year old son.
63. I'm "fixed".
64. I have a shoulder "issue" which causes carpal tunnel symptoms in my right and sometimes my left hand. I have permanent numbness in my right hand.
65. I've smoked on and off since I was thirteen and I've never gotten addicted.
66. I drink upwards of a dozen alcoholic drinks per week - not including going out. I often don't drink on Sundays.
67. I've tried some drugs and I hate them all (except for the alcohol).
68. I get very tan in summer, enough to look South American or mixed heritage, despite my pure English heritage.

Sex:
69. My libido is very high; I can be convinced without much convincing at practically any time.
70. I will stop and have stopped poor or disinterested sexual performance. Nothing turns me off quicker; though it's not been an issue for a long, long time.
71. If I were single I think I would have many one night stands.
72. I can't remember how many partners I've had; over ten easily. Maybe not quite twenty. I was a busy girl for the three years between losing my virginity and meeting PHF.
73. I didn't know three of the guys' names until after I slept with them (terrible with names, remember?). One I never knew.
74. I would be open to three-ways if I weren't married.
75. Only one time have I considered kissing another man since I met my husband. I'm glad I didn't. I've been 100% faithful.
76. Other than sex I don't really like to be touched much. My husband and kids have rights, but no one else, not even extended family. Most of my friends know this about me and keep their distance beyond token hugs.
77. I experimented with homosexuality at an early age. Chics turn me on sometimes to look at them (like in porn) but I don't really want to have sex with them.
78. Others' homosexuality doesn't bother me at all.
79. I'm a terrible flirt and "lookie-loo."

Places I've lived:
80. Kansas City until 6th grade.
81. Chicago until I was sixteen.
82. Topeka and then moved to Lawrence, Kansas for college (Kansas University).
83. Lawrence was home for 5 years and was the first place I ever really felt like I belonged.
84. Wichita for three years and hated it. I didn't realize how bad I hated it until I moved away.
85. I've lived in Colorado for ten years, the same house for five. I finally really feel like I'm home.

Travel:
86. The only foreign country I've been to is Britain.
87. US: Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin, Nevada, Ohio, Tennessee, California, Texas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arizona,
88. Much of my latest fiction series takes place in other countries: Phillipines, Czech Republic, Britain, France, Canada, Sweden. They start and end in Colorado though. It's an obvious vicarious expression of my longing to travel. I want to sell books and use the proceeds to travel.
89. I'd like to see: Africa, Egypt, Turkey, every nation in Europe, including Eastern, and Australia. I'm sure there are more...
90. I'd love to spend a summer exploring the British Isles.
91. I'm not opposed to living overseas, but I realize it's unlikely.
92. I'm not very interested in seeing the Orient, but I wouldn't turn down a trip.
93. I hope to sell international rights to my books.

Miscellaneous:
94. Current projects (shit I'm putting off by doing this): thinking about the final novel of my series (revising, rewriting). Rethinking an unrelated fifth novel that is already started. A magazine article. A short story set in futuristic Boulder. Sex Scenes, of course.
95. I love to read but I love to write more. Much of my reading is studying my current genres: science fiction and fantasy.
96. I really love to read British mysteries and children's novels.
97. I prefer action/violence/comedy movies.
98. Most of my written work carries a grim undertone and I'm told it doesn't match my outward personality at all.
99. This list took the better part of two hours to put together and I'm out of ideas.
